Introduction to CORE™

The training system offers simulation in a highly realistic synthetic environment powered by VBS4 from BAE Systems OneArc (OneArcTM). It features a single player mode for individual gunner skill training and can include multiplayer mode for crew training. The system emphasizes user friendliness and provides the trainee with automated and valuable feedback after each training session.

System configurations

The system is available in various configurations supporting training in a classroom environment, or on the actual platform. Each delivery includes highly detailed 3D models of the platform and PROTECTOR RWS or MCT system, together with pre-made training scenarios.

“Because you are using real equipment, training with control grips and interacting with buttons, muscle memory is improved and strengthened.

Combined with the realistic virtual world provided by VBS4, it’s also more engaging, which improves knowledge retention and drives behavioral change.”

- Pia Andersen, Director Through Life Support, Land Systems

Benefits

With CORE™ Training System, KONGSBERG’s PROTECTOR customers can train in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective environment. By minimizing the risks associated with live exercises, CORE™ significantly reduces operational costs and wear on equipment. Operators can confidently build the skills needed to master KONGSBERG’s PROTECTOR systems through easily accessible training sessions - ensuring mission readiness is always within reach.

Seamless integration for advanced training

CORE™ sets a new standard in simulator interoperability. Built around the powerful VBS4 platform, CORE™ can effortlessly be integrated with other simulator systems that also utilize VBS4 technology. This flexibility enables organizations to create unified training environments, where multiple systems communicate and interact in real time.

A prime example of this integration is the Patria SHIFTR Crew simulator, which leverages the CORE™ system for its gunnery position. SHIFTR takes realism even further by utilizing advanced mixed reality technology, featuring XR-4 headsets from VARJO. This cutting-edge solution immerses trainees in highly realistic scenarios, combining physical controls with virtual environments for unparalleled training effectiveness.

By combining CORE™’s high-fidelity training capabilities with PATRIA’s advanced crew simulation and VARJO’s XR-4 mixed reality, users benefit from intuitive controls, robust after-action review tools, and a truly immersive experience. The result is a training solution that not only enhances operational readiness but also streamlines the learning experience for crews and instructors alike.

Whether deployed in classrooms or integrated into vehicle-based trainers, CORE™ ensures that your simulation ecosystem remains scalable, adaptable, and future-proof. With VBS4 as the backbone, expanding your training capabilities is just a connection away.

For customers seeking deeper, objective insight into trainee performance, the optional HEAT software from VRAI can be integrated with the CORE™ Training System. HEAT captures key performance and scenario data directly from the simulation environment and securely stores this information over time, building a clear record of trainee progression. It then analyses the data to generate meaningful, scenario specific insights that align with the training objectives defined for each exercise.

Finally, HEAT visualises these insights through instructor ready after-action review dashboards, enabling clearer, more consistent and evidence based feedback. These capabilities help training teams deliver richer debriefs, track progress more effectively and improve overall training outcomes.
