Site Expansion and 20th Anniversary Ribbon Cutting Celebration held in Johnstown, Pennsylvania

On Friday, February 20 the KONGSBERG Johnstown, Pennsylvania site held a ribbon cutting for its $10 million manufacturing facility expansion and to celebrate its 20th anniversary in the town.  The expansion adds over 36,000 square feet of manufacturing space for the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV-30), as well as renovated office and meeting space for the facility.

Remarks from federal and local leaders, company leadership and the customer community all focused on the impact the employees make every day.  Cambria Region Chamber President Amy Bradley presented a plaque on behalf of the Chamber.  Pennsylvania State Senator Wayne Langerholc had a flag flown over the Pennsylvania State Capitol and US Rep. John Joyce had a flag flown over the United States Capitol on September 8, 2025 to mark the 20th anniversary of KONGSBERG in Johnstown.

Mr. Chris Melkonian, United States Marine Corps (USMC) Program Manager, Advanced Amphibious Assault, and Major General Jason Morris, USMC Director, Operations Division at DC PP&O represented the customer community at the event and spoke about the importance of the turrets manufactured in Johnstown. They both thanked the employees at the site for their hard work on behalf of the nation’s 173,000 active-duty Marines.

Joyce, who represents the site in the US House of Representatives, thanked the employees for their hard work and dedication to the US military and noted, “You put another tool in their tool belt to make America stronger and safer.”

KONGSBERG Executive President Defense Systems Kjetil Myhra noted that, “This is actually the largest manufacturing facility KONGSBERG has outside of Norway, and it’s growing.” The site has manufactured remote weapons stations for two decades and will ramp up production for ACV-30 turrets this year.

Site leader Dave Zucco and KDA, Inc. President and General Manager Heather Armentrout noted that the site had hired 20 new employees in the last year and will continue to add an estimated 30 new employees this year. Armentrout noted that, “This event showed our customers and partners that we are investing in our capabilities in Johnstown to meet our commitments and continuing to be part of the fabric of the community for years to come.  The real highlight was seeing our employees be recognized for all of their hard work.”

The event culminated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, reception featuring local foods and tours of the expanded facility.
