For several years, Safran Power Units has been supplying KONGSBERG with the TR-40 engine powering the Naval Strike Missile. The success of this program within the European Union and NATO has ushered both companies to deepen their relationship and increase coordination on production ramp-up.
“This Long-Term Cooperation Agreement is an example of how KONGSBERG collaborates with strategic suppliers to respond to the strong demand we see for our strike missiles across NATO and allied nations,” said Øyvind Kolset, Executive Vice President, Missiles and Space, at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
"We are proud to sign this milestone agreement, positioning Safran as a strategic partner of Kongsberg on the NSM, which has met remarkable success within European and NATO armed forces,” said Ghislaine Doukhan, Safran Power Units CEO.
The NSM is an anti-ship missile with superior operational performance and high survivability against all enemy defense systems. The missile was developed by Kongsberg and first deployed in 2012 by the Royal Norwegian Navy, on its frigates and coastal corvettes. It was then selected by several other countries: United States, Poland, Romania, Canada, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, Spain, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium and Latvia and Denmark.
