Locally built Missile Launchers certified as ‘Australian Made’

Kongsberg Defence Australia (KDAu) has joined the Australian Made Campaign, proudly carrying the green and gold kangaroo on its locally produced Naval Strike Missile (NSM) launcher systems.

Kongsberg Defence Australia is manufacturing the NSM launchers utilising numerous Australian made components, which are being built and tested in its production and maintenance facility in Mawson Lakes, South Australia.

The launcher canisters are supplied by advanced composite manufacturing company, Aerobond Defence, and complex precision machined components for the launcher are manufactured by QPE Advanced Machining, both based in Adelaide. The launcher frame and rail assemblies are provided by Victoria-based Marand, with other machined components manufactured by another local Victorian company.

Managing Director John Fry said the move highlights Kongsberg Defence Australia’s growing role in KONGSBERG’s Global Supply Chain, and confirms its commitment to local manufacturing. “The Australian Made logo reflects the skills and capability of our local industry. We are proud that world-class Defence capability is being built right here in Australia, for both the Australia Defence Force and our international partners.”

The Australian Made Campaign’s Chief Executive, Ben Lazzaro is encouraged to have Kongsberg Defence Australia become a licensee. “Australia is a leader in the technology, defence and advanced manufacturing space, so it is no surprise that Kongsberg Defence Australia has chosen to manufacture in Australia. Australia’s ability to manufacture products to high standards makes it a clear choice for
the growing Defence manufacturing sector."

This marks the first time NSM launchers have been produced outside Europe and the United States, with the first export order for Australian Made NSM Launchers already secured for European customers.
