KMSS Upgrades the Norwegian Royal Yacht

The Norwegian Royal Yacht "Norge" berthed in Horten

KMSS has been awarded a contract to upgrade the navigation system on board the Norwegian Royal Yacht K/S "Norge".

Integrated bridge system The delivery consists of:

  • DataBridge 10 radar, SeaMap 10 ECDIS and Conning Display in KMSS standard consoles with 18" flat screens.
  • DataBridge 10, SeaMap 10 and Conning Display, in wooden consoles with 23" flat screens.

The wooden consoles are located on the top deck in open air. 98% of all sailing will be controlled from the top bridge. A switch on the commander's console can select radar, chart or conning display. All consoles can easily be removed from the top deck when the sailing season is over. The installation took place in April.

There are only two royal yachts in the world today: The Norwegian "Norge" and the Danish "Dannebrog". The royal yacht "Norge" is owned by HM The King. A Royal Decree of 1947 provides that the ship shall be manned, operated and maintained by the Defence Forces. "Norge" is 264 feet long, has a gross tonnage of 1628 and a maximum cruising speed of 16 knots. The complement of officers and crew is 54.
