Bid Manager
We’re looking for a proactive and detail‑driven Bid Manager to join our Propulsion and Handling UK Sales Team. Reporting directly to the Sales Director for Stabilisers and Naval Steering Gear, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping commercially successful proposals that support our growth.
Working closely with engineering, procurement, and wider business functions, you’ll ensure our solutions are accurately costed, competitive, and aligned with customer and company expectations.
What you will be doing
- Own and manage the end-to-end bid process from RFQ receipt through to final submission.
- Develop and manage bid timelines, compliance matrices, deliverables, and governance requirements.
- Ensure bids/proposals are delivered on time, fully compliant, and aligned with internal sales processes.
- Coordinate cross-functional inputs from Engineering, Pricing, Supply Chain, Projects, and other stakeholders.
- Compile, update, and maintain detailed cost and hours estimates, ensuring traceability of key assumptions and cost drivers.
- Utilise internal tools for currency exchange rates and apply relevant price indices where required.
- Request and incorporate external supplier inputs (e.g., transport or subcontractor costs) as needed.
- Lead bid kick-off meetings for major opportunities; document minutes, actions, and responsibilities.
- Facilitate internal bid review gates prior to submission, record outcomes and actions.
- Support proposal development in conjunction with Sales, ensuring consistency and completeness of documentation.
- Manage and update standard cost models, bid libraries, templates, and response materials.
- Maintain and contribute to the bid risk register and governance process.
- Capture and implement lessons learned to improve future bid performance and efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement and streamlining of bid processes to enhance accuracy and repeatability.
- Support Engineering and Projects with ad hoc estimates for new developments and change orders.
- Coordinate and support audit activities related to bids and commercial processes.
- Maintain accurate CRM records and ensure effective use of internal systems.
- Apply strong Excel capability for cost modelling and analysis.
- Perform other duties as required.
We think you should have
- Degree‑level qualification with a proven track record of managing sales campaigns across multiple customers
- Strong negotiation skills and a solid understanding of contractual terms and conditions
- Knowledge of the marine industry, particularly naval markets
- Familiarity with our product range and shipbuilding practices
- A strong engineering background with the ability to communicate effectively at a technical level with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365
This role requires BPSS pre‑employment screening, and the successful candidate may also need to obtain full SC clearance, so must be able to meet the necessary eligibility requirements.
