Lands MNOK 100 LNG contract

Kongsberg Maritime has won orders for automation and control systems for eight LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carriers. The total scope of the orders is approximately MNOK 100, and delivery is scheduled from early 2006 and to the end of 2007. The vessels are to be built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries for international shipping lines.

Kongsberg Maritime continues to experience success with its targeted initiatives in automation and control systems for gas carriers. The company is keeping a close eye on the development of new principles for transporting LNG. These vessels will embody new operating concepts. Four will run directly on diesel, while the other four will have hybrid diesel-electric propulsion systems, as opposed to conventional boilers and steam turbines. These orders are proof positive that KONGSBERG is maintaining its strong position in this market.

"We are currently supplying systems for a total of 67 LNG carriers that are on order or under construction", remarks Marketing Director Tor Erik Sørensen.
