Aker Finnyards buys DataChief C20

Our DataChief® C20 Integrated Automation System (IAS) has been selected for the Tallink III cruise ferry newbuild at Aker Finnyards, Rauma. This is the third vessel from Aker Finnyards for owner Estonian Tallink Group that utilises DataChief® C20.

Large scale Integrated automation system At a length of 212 metres and a beam of 29 metres the 48,300 gross tonne Tallink III will be one of the largest cruise ferries in the Baltic Sea, with capacity for 2,800 passengers and 1,130 lanemetres. She is propelled by four diesel engines with a total power output of 26,240 kW and a service speed of 22 knots. A vessel of this scope requires a large scale IAS capable of performing complex monitoring and control safety, efficiency and reliability.

2000 input/output signals The DataChief® C20 for Tallink III will be a comprehensive system with more than 2000 input/output signals. A total of four workstations will be located in the wheelhouse, engine control room and cargo control room. The highly distributed system will comprise advanced power management and generator control for three diesel generators and two shaft generators, as well as a total machinery process monitoring and control system, covering main engines, tanks, fans, valves and pumps.

Delivery Tallink III will be delivered in spring 2006 when it will start regular cruises between Helsinki and Tallin.
