Wins contract for new missile torpedo boats

Today Kongsberg Gruppen has signed a contract with the Armed Forces' Logistics Organisation to supply the command and control system for the new Skjold Class MTBs (missile torpedo boats). In collaboration with UMOE Mandal and ARMARIS of France, KONGSBERG will upgrade the existing KNM Skjold, then build and equip five new vessels. KONGSBERG's share of the contract is valued at MNOK 750.

"We're very pleased to be signing this contract. It will mean a lot for our further technological development and help guarantee jobs", states Tom Gerhardsen, president of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

The command and control system to be deployed on the new MTBs will be developed and manufactured through close co-operation between KONGSBERG and ARMARIS of France. The system will be based on corresponding orders for the upgraded Hauk Class MTBs for the Royal Norwegian Navy. These vessels have attracted a great deal of praise lately, not least as a result of their participation in the monitoring and control of vessel traffic in the Straits of Gibraltar.
