Kongsberg Gruppen has landed contracts worth a total of MNOK 90 for control systems for four tankers scheduled to be built in Japan and to carry LNG from the Snøhvit field to the USA, Spain and France.
"These contracts confirm KONGSBERG's strong position and the fact that we are steadily winning market shares from other suppliers", states Torfinn Kildal, President of Kongsberg Maritime.
"We first addressed this market seriously in 2000. Since then, we've sold just less than MNOK 600 worth of products and won 34 of 76 possible contracts for automation and measurement systems designed for this kind of gas carriers. Of the vessels currently on order/being built, KONGSBERG is responsible for deliveries to 28 of a total of 59 vessels. We are very well satisfied with this trend", smiles Kildal.
All four vessels will be built at Japanese shipyards. Two of the four are being built for the Høegh shipping lines at the Mitsubishi Shipyard in Japan. Destined for the Japanese shipping company K-Line, the other two vessels are being built at the Mitsui and Kawasaki shipyards, respectively.
The vessels will carry liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Snøhvit field produced at the Melkøya terminal to the USA, Spain and France. The first LNG shipments from Melkøya near Hammerfest will be ready in 2006.
