Kongsberg Maritime-equipped Monna Lisa wins Ship of the Year 2025

The award-winning Monna Lisa features high cable-carrying capacity and reduced CO2 emissions technology.

Monna Lisa, a highly advanced cable-laying vessel, has been honoured with the prestigious Skipsrevyen 'Ship of the Year 2025' award. Built by Norwegian shipbuilder Vard for Prysmian and equipped with Kongsberg Maritime’s state-of-the-art DP and handling systems, this vessel redefines efficiency in offshore cable deployment.

The 171-metre CLV joined Prysmian’s fleet in February this year following successful sea trials. The vessel boasts two carousels with capacities of 7,000 and 10,000 tonnes, among the highest available, reducing transportation time from factory to installation site.

Monna Lisa matches sister ship Leonardo da Vinci in terms of capacity and performance, but with reduced CO2 emissions. Monna Lisa has a high-voltage shore connection, a 3MWh energy storage system with double the battery capacity, and generators that work on biodiesel blends. This enables lower fuel consumption during operations.

Kongsberg Maritime fitted the Monna Lisa with a K-Pos DP 3 system capable of handling the most challenging cable installation jobs worldwide. The vessel is also equipped with K-Master, K-IMS, and K-Thrust systems, along with an 8-point mooring system, anchor winches, and harbour anchor winches.

Cable-laying operations have become increasingly critical as offshore communications and power transmission demands rise. The Monna Lisa is the sixth vessel in Prysmian’s growing fleet of modern cable-laying vessels.

Kongsberg Maritime also provided equipment and technology for Leonardo da Vinci, making the award for Monna Lisa a milestone in the highly successful partnership between Prysmian, Vard, and Kongsberg Maritime.
