Kongsberg EmPower is a newly developed turbine independent decision support system based on KONGSBERG's broad experience with automation and decision support systems for the defence and maritime sectors as well as offshore oil and gas. It has a functionality that surpasses all other systems for wind farm management and data collection on the market.
The system that is delivered to Arctic Wind will mainly focus on wind farm monitoring and status based maintenance needs. The agreement also includes an option for purchasing a customised module that will forecast production, and a module that optimises the operation of the farm with respect to "turbine wake".
The world's most northerly wind farm
The system will be installed at Havøygavlen Windmill Park, located in the municipality of Måsøy between Hammerfest and the North Cape. Havøygavlen is the world's most northerly wind farm with extreme winds and a cold climate. The wind farm counts 16 wind turbines and has a total capacity of 40 MW. This gives an annual output of around 120 GWh. The wind farm has been in operation since 2003.
With status data supplied by Kongsberg EmPower it is easier for Arctic Wind to carry out maintenance of the wind farm based on the actual needs. Arctic Wind will work together with KONGSBERG to develop new routines and procedures, based on data from Kongsberg EmPower, and the aim is to reduce maintenance costs for the wind farm.
"With this new decision support system we expect to be able to predict our maintenance needs with higher precision and thereby be able to plan our activities more accurately.
