A milestone has been reached for the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service - EGNOS, with the transition from ESA’s EGNOS System Test Bed to the ‘production’ EGNOS system for provision of GPS augmentation services over Europe. During 1999 initial tests was carried out on the EGNOS Test Bed, and Kongsberg Seatex AS were assigned the contract for delivery of the Reference Stations for the EGNOS test bed system. The Test Bed is based on the SATREF system developed by Kongsberg Seatex for the Norwegian Network of GPS Reference Stations, and has enabled EGNOS to get a "flying start" in the implementation of the Test Bed.
