Multi Reference DGPS system
The towing and installation of the Kristin semi-submersible production platform has been successfully accomplished with support from Kongsberg Maritime systems. iSURVEY, a specialist in navigation, positioning and survey services, utilised the Kongsberg Maritime Multi Reference DGPS system as the reference system during the towing and installation, to provide accurate positioning of the platform and tugs.
The Kristin semi-submersible production platform has been towed to the Kristin Field at Haltenbanken in the Norwegian Sea. Setting off on March 25th, from Aker Kværner yard at Stord (south of Bergen), the Kristin semi-submersible production platform arrived on the Haltenbanken in the early hours of March 29th with the assistance of five of the world’s largest seagoing tugs. The tugs are all owned by Mærsk, included three towing tugs forward of the platform and one aft. Tug number five was serving as an escort.
Senior iSURVEY offshore surveyors operated the Kongsberg Maritime positioning software onboard Kristin semi-submersible production platform during the towing and installation operation.
The Kristin semi-submersible production platform – which has no propulsion engines of her own – was towed in the open sea and could not be observed from land during her voyage.
