KONGSBERG has rapidly established a strong presence in Moss. The site has now grown beyond 100 employees, marking an important milestone for both the company and the region. The Moss operation forms part of KONGSBERG’s long-term strategy, with clear ambitions for continued growth and no predefined limits on scale.

“I am truly proud of what our colleagues in Moss have achieved in such a short period of time.

What started in 2022 as a small team with high ambitions has developed into a strong and capable professional environment. Growing from 15 to more than 100 employees in just three years reflects the commitment, expertise and drive of our people."

"A positive working culture, a long-term perspective and close cooperation with the municipality, employee representatives, local authorities and KONGSBERG’s management have all been essential. For me, this demonstrates what can be achieved when skilled people are given trust and the opportunity to build something together,” says Bernhard Fog, Director Engineering Defence Systems, KONGSBERG.

No defined ceiling for growth

Over recent years, KONGSBERG has built a growing high-technology environment in Moss and the surrounding region, offering attractive and future-oriented jobs. The operation also carries a clear societal role, contributing to national security, technological capability and regional development.

“The Moss region offers a compelling combination of skilled talent, solid infrastructure and a high quality of life. We recruit from a wide geographical area and see that many choose to relocate here when joining KONGSBERG. There is no defined ceiling for our growth in Moss. Our ambition is to continue expanding and strengthening this professional environment, supported by access to highly qualified engineers and strong collaboration between industry and the region.”

Strong local support

The establishment has been met with strong support locally. Cooperation with the municipality, regional stakeholders and the business community has been constructive and forward-looking, and the presence of KONGSBERG is seen as an important contribution to building a robust high-technology cluster east of the Oslo fjord.

During the celebration of the milestone, Mayor Simen Nord welcomed the continued growth: “We are very proud of your [KONGSBERG’s] presence in Moss. The municipality has room for more, and we welcome additional employees and new activities. We are committed to supporting those who choose to come here. Thank you for choosing Moss, for investing in the region, and for the good cooperation so far. Congratulations on reaching this milestone.”

Access to expertise and talent remains central to the further development of the Moss operation. KONGSBERG works closely with educational institutions such as Østfold University College and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) to ensure relevant competence and to strengthen professional environments both locally and regionally.

A result of long-term, well-founded decisions

The Moss site is a hub for engineering, design and development, with activities spanning cyber security, software development, systems engineering, as well as mechanical and electrical design. The environment plays an important role in the development of KONGSBERG’s advanced technology solutions.

“What we are building in Moss goes beyond job creation. It is a high-technology environment with specialised expertise and a clear purpose. Our work directly supports Norway’s total defence and delivers capabilities that are important for both Norway and its allies. This gives real meaning to the work being done here.”

Kjetil Myhra, EVP Defence Systems at KONGSBERG

Myhra continues: “KONGSBERG’s growth in recent years has been strong, and the development in Moss illustrates the value of long-term, well-founded decisions. Continued growth depends on access to competence, local presence and effective cooperation with authorities, municipalities and employee organisations, all of which are vital to Norwegian industry and national preparedness.”

At the same time, KONGSBERG is positioning itself for further international growth. The consolidation of the business areas Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Kongsberg Discovery into technology- and defence-focused KONGSBERG is intended to strengthen competitiveness and execution across its markets. As security and sustainability increasingly shape the global landscape, this creates new opportunities for value creation, with strong regional roots in places such as Moss.

This milestone recognises the contribution of the employees who have built the Moss operation and highlights KONGSBERG’s long-term commitment to the region as a key location for future growth in Norway.
