EM system features

Additional capabilities for EM systems

The EM system features are individually licensed and enabled on the applicable EM systems processing unit. The settings for each feature are configured in the K-Controller software, which is provided with each EM system. The data are visualized and recorded by the Seafloor Information System (SIS) or your third-party acquisition software.

HighFrequency mode

You can upgrade the EM 2040 series to 600 - 700 kHz mode. This feature offers a larger operational depth range and better resolution in shallow waler. This feature is only available for EM 2040 Single RX and EM 2040P.

Extra detections

This feature allows detections in the water column lo be captured in the KMAll format. They can then be used in the post-processing process. Select Extra Detection to ensure that echoes from any depth points that deviate noticeably from their adjacent depth points are displayed on the screen and logged correctly. This is useful when you survey wrecks. This ensures that, for instance, echoes from a mast are displayed and recorded.

Available for all EM systems.

EM MultiFrequency Bathymetry

This function enables the multibeam system to change the swath configuration between multibeam pings. This lets you dynamically define the frequency, swath width (coverage) and pulse mode for up to five consecutive pings. By doing this, you generate a true multi-layered dataset.

Available for EM 2040 Single RX EM 2040P.

EM MultiFrequency Backscatter

The multi-frequency backscatter feature improves high-resolution inspection surveys using different frequencies simultaneously with the backscatter mosaics for seafloor surface characterization. This mode provides up to five frequencies in a single pass by alternating between the frequency modes per ping. This feature is only available for EM 2040 Single RX, Dual RX and EM 2040P.

EM MultiFrequency Inspection

With MultiFrequency Inspection, the user sets the EM to alternate between a wide swath frequency and a narrow swath high resolution frequency, thus maintaining the coverage requirement and the resolution requirement of the inspection. Combined with the new Ultra High Frequency modes for the EM 2040, the flexibility of the EM® MultiFrequency mode will allow users to freely select when to focus on resolution and when to focus on coverage.

EM MultiFrequency Pulse

The flexibility of the MultiFrequency mode includes the option to select which pulse length mode to send for each frequency. With MultiFrequency Pulse the user can select the same frequency for all pings but vary the pulse lengths. By doing this, users will be able to monitor how the seabed characteristics change with the pulse length, adding another layer to the seabed classification effort.

Water column phase data logging

Water column phase logging allows you to do your own bottom or target detections more precisely. This feature is also beneficial for the accurate localization of smaller targets in the water column, such as bubbles.
