Responsible use of resources

Resource use is closely linked to climate change. Currently, only 6,9 percent* of the material’s extracted from the earth are cycled back into our economies after use. This consumption pattern, linear resource use, has a significant burden on the environment and contributes directly to climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and waste crises.

Circular economy is about ensuring that resources are used as efficiently and gently as possible, so that all varieties of waste are avoided or reduced, and resources are regenerated so that access to them does not deteriorate. As such, circular economy is a sustainable and responsible consumption, and perhaps more behavioral and attitudinal principles than just an economic model.

The defence industry, like many others, has an environmental footprint and stands to benefit greatly from adopting circular economy principles. Being resource-efficient and reducing waste are not only good for the environment and reduces GHG emissions – it is also often economical, drive innovation and helps build more resilient value chains.
