Eirik Lie, President & CEO of KONGSBERG, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of the new facility.
“I am both proud and impressed by this spectacular waterfront building. With 45,000 square metres of offices, high-tech laboratories, and modern production lines, Horizon is far more than walls and ceilings. It reflects KONGSBERG’s innovative strength and ambitions. Our investment here demonstrates our confidence in the strong technology community built in Horten,” he said.
Horizon - looking to the future
Lie also emphasised the value of bringing together employees who were previously based in several locations across Horten. The name Horizon was selected through an internal competition among KONGSBERG employees in Horten.
“The name Horizon represents what lies ahead: new opportunities, uncharted territory, and continuous innovation. That is exactly what this facility is intended to inspire. It is about looking up and moving forward,” Lie said.
Building on local industrial heritage Camilla Kiss, Executive Vice President at KONGSBERG and President of Discovery, welcomed guests including Horten Mayor Christina Bratli, Chair of the Board Eivind Reiten, members of Parliament, partners, and customers.
“This building has already become a place we greatly value. It supports growth, innovation, development, and collaboration across divisions and business units. We are building for the future on historic ground, and we are proud to continue Norway’s industrial legacy here at Karljohansvern,” Kiss said.
