Fully integrated inertial and positioning systems for Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) beam stabilization, increasing accuracy, reliability, and ease of use for seabed surveys by hydrographic agencies, commercial survey, ocean research vessels and dredging specialists.

Reliable data starts with stable motion

Accurate seabed mapping depends on how well you measure movement. KONGSBERG’s inertial sensors, built on decades of experience in motion sensing, gyrocompassing, and GNSS integration, deliver the stability and precision needed for high-quality multibeam echo sounder (MBES) data, even in rough conditions.

Built for accurate seabed mapping

Seapath® INS provides reliable position, velocity, attitude, and heading data –essential for multibeam echo sounders (MBES). When paired with the EM2042, which includes a built-in miniMRU, the system captures clean, high-resolution data even in rough conditions.

Inertial sensors built for demanding conditions

KONGSBERG offers a full range of inertial motion sensors to support accurate vessel movement tracking:

MGC® (Motion Gyro Compass)
Delivers top-tier accuracy in roll, pitch, yaw and heave. It is north-seeking, GNSS-independent and Wheelmark approved.

MRU (Motion Reference Unit)
A proven choice for stable motion measurements in marine environments.

miniMRU
Compact and efficient – ideal for installations where space is limited.

All sensors maintain performance even when GNSS signals are weak or unavailable.

Enhancing MBES performance with Seapath

KONGSBERG’s multibeam echo sounders are used across shallow, medium and full-ocean surveys. Seapath improves their performance by delivering accurate motion data and reliable system integration.

Real-time motion tracking
Seapath measures roll, pitch, yaw and heave with precision, helping maintain consistent beam patterns and survey coverage.

Beam stabilisation
Wide-swath MBES systems depend on accurate attitude data. Seapath provides the stability needed for full coverage and clean results.

Fast and flexible data handling
Seapath supports data rates up to 200 Hz with zero delay. It delivers measurements at eight points and includes 16 configurable serial lines and Ethernet ports for easy integration with onboard systems.

Built-in quality control
The system monitors position accuracy continuously. If tolerances are exceeded, it issues warnings to protect data integrity.

Automatic calibration
Internal sensors are calibrated online to maintain factory-level performance over time.
