MGC R1 Compass

Gyro Compass

The MGC R1 COMPASS system is IMO type approved as a gyro compass for navigation purposes for use together with a heading and bearing repeater. Very high reliability is achieved by using Ring Laser Gyros with no rotational or mechanical wear-out parts.

High-Performance Navigation

The system can be operated as an inertial navigation system as well as a gyro compass with output of position and heading. Linear position and velocity measurements can then be output in up to four different points on the vessel. Typical applications include bridge systems where heading, position, speed, and rate of turn information, as well as heading and latitude data (VBW/VTG and GGA/GLL), is required.

Advanced Communication Capabilities

MGC data is available through both Ethernet interface and serial lines enabling easy distribution of data to multiple users on board the vessel. Output protocols for commonly used equipment are available on five individually configurable serial lines and five Ethernet/UDP ports.

Robust and Reliable Design

The high reliability of the MGC R1 COMPASS is due to its Ring Laser Gyros (RLG), which boast no rotational or mechanical wear-out parts. The MGC R1 COMPASS integrates advanced technologies to deliver accurate and reliable navigational data, becoming an indispensable tool for ships and high-speed crafts.

Software defined switchover solution

The MGC gyro compass solution comprises two or three MGC COMPASS units with the JB7 junction box in an interconnected setup which delivers an unmatched redundant SoU system. The Switch-over-Unit functionality is implemented to increase the heading availability by adding redundancy. When two or more MGC units are set up with the Switch-over-Unit functionality, they are regarded as one gyro system.
