Simrad PX90

Gear monitoring system with accurate navigation

Navigating the gear

The Simrad PX90 represents the most advanced solution in Simrad’s gear monitoring range. It integrates all the features of the Simrad PX15 and Simrad PX70 and adds an industry-leading capability: real-time geographical positioning of sensors fitted to the fishing gear.

Rather than navigating by the vessel’s own position, you can work from the actual position of the gear on the seabed. This enables significantly more precise manoeuvring over underwater structures, shelf edges, or fish aggregations.

Integration with other manufacturers’ charting and navigation systems provides complete situational awareness, reducing the risk of gear loss and optimising every pass over the fishing ground.

Extremely accurate gear navigation

With the Simrad PxPos sensors, the PX90 becomes our most advanced gear monitoring system. With the PxPos, the system incorporates two-way communication between the sensor and your vessel. This capability unlocks an unprecedented operational possibility: real-time geographic positioning of the sensors on a 3D plotter, allowing you to navigate using the gear’s position as the reference point rather than the vessel’s own.

The result is superior manoeuvring precision on the fishing ground, particularly in areas with complex seabed structures, shelf edges, or high-density fish concentrations.

Sensor support

The SImrad PX90 Gear monitoring system supports multiple PX sensors, including the Simrad PxPos sensor providing real-time geographic positioning of the sensors and thus the net.

Better geometry, higher efficiency, and a more consistent catch

Maximising performance goes beyond towing power; it requires precise control of the net geometry. Maintaining the correct wing-end angle, aligned with the net’s rigging coefficient, is key to maximising flow efficiency, reducing drag, and delivering consistent, high-performance trawling. When geometry and rigging are perfectly balanced, water flow remains smooth and evenly distributed, enhancing filtration and overall gear stability.

Every net has a limit. Now you can see it.

Beyond a certain speed, your trawl stops filtering efficiently. Water builds up and creates turbulence; the flow becomes unstable, and performance drops. Until now, this limit has been invisible. When you combine your gear monitoring system with the Simrad PX Flow sensor, you can measure the real water flow into the net in real time. You can then identify the optimal towing speed and avoid costly inefficiencies. The result is less guesswork, more control and better catches.
