Electro Optical Sensor
The EO sensor provides the NASAMS FDC operator with a live video and an electro optical/infrared (IR) picture, and has a laser range finder.
The EO sensor is installed on a lightweight terrain vehicle. The sensor package is actively stabilized in use and is highly manoeuvrable, flexible and easy to deploy and maintain.
The EO sensor is mainly used for the following:
- Passive surveillance
- Raid Assessment
- Ground surveillance
- Probable Jammer Location (PJL) verification
- Kill Assessment
- Verification of external tracks from Higher Echelon Unit (HEU)
The EO System is remotely controlled from the Fire Distribution Centre (FDC).
