Mime Program
Strengthening defence capability through secure communications and digital integration
The Mime program is a strategic national initiative designed to strengthen Norwegian and allied defence capabilities through a modernised communications infrastructure and improved interaction across digital operational tools. The program supports the objectives of Norway’s national defence industrial strategy, in line with Stortingsmelding 17 (2020–2021).
KONGSBERG plays a central role in the Mime program through innovation, development, procurement and integration. The collaboration also creates opportunities for other parts of Norwegian industry, helping to strengthen national expertise, industrial capacity and long-term operational readiness.
Since entering into a strategic partnership in 2022, KONGSBERG has developed its role within Mime through a more established organisational structure. Through a framework agreement with Forsvarsmateriell (FMA), KONGSBERG is delivering projects that contribute to stronger combat capability in peace, crisis and war. As the programme develops, further opportunities are expected to support more effective use of technology, secure data flow and enhanced operational performance.
Three delivery streams have been defined, with KONGSBERG involved in all of them:
Tactical land-based communications infrastructure
Modernising and developing the Armed Forces’ land-based communications solutions to enable secure, resilient and effective operations.
Sea- and air-based tactical communications infrastructure
Developing critical communications solutions for maritime and air-based operational activities across complex mission environments.
Operational decision support services (BST) and tactical platform
Developing systems and applications across key information and communications technology areas, including intelligence, command and control, fires, and decision support systems for tactical and operational levels.
