Under the agreement, KONGSBERG will serve as prime contractor for work carried out on the four frigates, while Navantia will provide design, engineering and platform support based on its role as the original designer, integrator and builder of the vessels.
"The Fridtjof Nansen-class frigates are a key capability for the Royal Norwegian Navy. This agreement combines KONGSBERG's lifecycle support capabilities with Navantia's extensive knowledge of the platform, while further strengthening industrial cooperation between Norway and Spain in the naval defence sector," says Tom Dahl, Senior Manager Business Development at KONGSBERG.
The scope includes maintenance activities, modifications and technical upgrades aimed at supporting the continued availability and development of the frigate fleet.
As the original designer, integrator and builder of the vessels, Navantia brings extensive knowledge of the frigates' design, systems and platform architecture.
The agreement was signed in Bergen with representatives from KONGSBERG, Navantia and the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency present.
