From vision to reality

In a major advancement for offshore drilling safety and crew competence, Noble Corporation has partnered with Kongsberg Maritime to implement a next-generation simulation training solution. This pioneering system seamlessly integrates K-Sim, K-Pos, RMS, and K-IMS eWSOG technologies, marking a global first in drilling simulator capabilities and setting a new benchmark for offshore training.

The simulator package delivered under a new contract between Noble and Kongsberg Maritime features state-of-the-art navigation, engine, and dynamic positioning (DP) simulation platforms, powered by the market-leading K-Pos DP system. Tailored to Noble’s operational context, the solution is the first of its kind to fully integrate the Riser Monitoring System (RMS) and electronic Well Specific Operating Guidelines (eWSOG) into a high-fidelity, fullscale training environment.

Factory Acceptance Test milestone
The Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at Kongsberg Maritime Simulation in Horten, Norway this autumn, marked a significant step toward delivering this advanced training infrastructure to Noble’s Houston-based operations. During the FAT, Noble representatives validated a simulator that closely replicates the layout and equipment of their actual drillships, a digital twin of operational fidelity.

Integrated training for integrated teams

The new simulator also enables Nautical Institute-accredited training in-house, a first of its kind for any drilling contractor. It reflects Noble’s belief that technical skills alone are insufficient in today’s high-stakes offshore environment.

Empowering people, elevating standards
This bold investment is a testament to Noble’s enduring values. “Our commitment to safety, performance, and innovation defines who we are,” emphasized Brian Herbert. “These simulators enhance the preparedness of our people while reinforcing Noble’s position as the First Choice for Employees, Customers, and Investors.”

Kongsberg Maritime shares this vision. “Our K-Sim technology is transforming offshore training by offering professionals an exceptionally realistic environment,” said Are Føllesdal Tjønn, Managing Director of Kongsberg Maritime’s Simulation Division. “We’re honored to support Noble in their goal to drive safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.”

Looking ahead
With this high-fidelity, cross-disciplinary training solution, Noble Corporation is not just investing in technology, it’s investing in its people, its safety culture, and the future of offshore drilling. The integration of K-IMS with K-Sim represents a major step forward in ensuring that crews are equipped to handle the challenges of tomorrow today.
