Meet Trygg and Hedda
What does it take to keep the world’s shipping industry moving? At Kongsberg Maritime, Field Service Engineers (FSEs) are the unsung heroes behind the scenes - problem-solvers, innovators, and adventurers who ensure vessels operate safely and efficiently. For Hedda and Trygg, this role has been more than a career choice; it’s a passport to the world and a gateway to endless opportunities.
Hedda: From Electronics to Ocean Adventures
When Hedda joined Kongsberg Maritime in August 2022, she brought with her a degree in Electronics and IT Engineering from OsloMet, specializing in Medical Technology. But her career took an unexpected turn toward the maritime industry—a decision that changed everything

“No two jobs are the same. This isn’t just a job—it’s a lifestyle.”
Her work as a Field Service Engineer involved commissioning, refits, retrofits, and managing installation teams on vessels worldwide. “We deliver automation systems that are essential to the safe operation of the vessel and the well-being of the crew,” Hedda explains.
What makes the role exciting?
Global travel: Hed
da has visited destinations she never imagined, including New Zealand—a trip she calls “once-in-a-lifetime.”
Responsibility: “Often, we’re the lead engineers on-site, managing installation teams and overseeing critical systems.”
Variety: “No two jobs are the same. Every day brings new challenges.”
The toughest part?
Unpredictability. “A three-day job can turn into three weeks. You need flexibility and resilience.”
Hedda has since transitioned into Technical Advisory - a role that opens doors to advanced engineering and project management. “Every day brings something new,” she says.
Trygg: From Apprentice to Adventurer
Trygg’s journey began as an automation technician through an apprenticeship, later complemented by a degree in Automation Engineering. That combination of hands-on experience and academic knowledge gave him the perfect foundation for life as a Field Service Engineer.
“If you see challenges as adventures, you’ll do just fine.”
His role takes him to vessels and offshore installations worldwide, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Kongsberg systems.

What he loves the most?
- Variety: “No two days are ever the same.
- Global connections: “One day I’m elbow-deep in cables, the next I’m explaining a system to a captain over coffee.”
- Immediate impact: “You see the results of your work right away.”

His career advise? “Absolutely recommend it! If you enjoy solving puzzles, don’t mind getting your hands dirty, and like the idea of traveling while learning, this is a fantastic way to start.”
