Simrad 38/200 Combi D

This single-beam transducer offers two transducers in one. The two frequencies will cover the water column and detect the bottom in both deep and shallow waters. The transducer also includes a temperature sensor.

The transducer features a hydrodynamic exterior and is intended for installation on the hull's exterior. It should not be mounted flush. Instead, a custom fairing must be created to sit between the hull and the upper surface of the transducer. This fairing needs to provide the correct installation angle, accommodate the cable service loop, and fully support the entire top area of the housing. Partial support - such as only at the ends - can lead to structural damage during heavy impacts. The housing includes two bolt holes for securely through‑bolting the unit to the fairing.

Positioning the transducer roughly 0.5 meters off the keel typically allows adequate water flow between the keel and the unit.

For optimal performance, the transducer face should be angled about 1–2 degrees so that oncoming water meets it cleanly, promoting stable, laminar flow. Mounting screws must sit flush, and any gaps around them should be sealed with an appropriate compound or locking ring.

The transducer face, surrounding hull plating, and any filler material should be finished to a smooth, even surface. Irregularities in these areas can disrupt water flow and reduce performance.

The transducer cable penetrates the hull using a stuffing tube and a cable gland.
