POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for the health, safety, and quality assurance activities under Kongsberg Discovery (KD) in the Americas, as well as the facility management of the Vancouver, BC office.

Reporting directly to the Head of Kongsberg Discovery Canada, LTD, the QA Manager ensures consistent safety and quality of production related to operations including engineering and sales, by developing and enforcing quality standards, validating processes, and providing documentation.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the division management in performing periodic management review by initiation, data provision, and report compilation. State and quantify quality assurance objectives (KPIs) including Ex/ATEX if relevant.
  • Plan and monitor divisional QA activities aligned with KD and division management decisions. Ensure monitoring and reporting of QA objectives (KPIs).
  • Establish and maintain risks and mitigation activities related to QA objectives.
  • Implement and maintain common KD quality initiatives (e.g., audit procedures, supplier quality development) in the division.
  • Contribute to resolution of non-compliance issues related to products and processes.
  • Contribute to handling of customer complaints. Contribute to problem solving.
  • Evaluate the divisions problem solving / CAPA handling capabilities. Is it sufficient to resolve the most important non-compliance issues? If not, propose improvements.
  • Escalate unresolved major non-compliance issues.
  • Maintain records from own QA activities and for QA awareness training.
  • Maintain own competence related to quality standards, the management system and auditing.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities like audits, improvement projects / activities, problem solving activities, training etc.
  • Reports to the VP of Operations on common KD quality initiatives and divisional topics of interest to the quality community.
  • Leads and manages the company's lean manufacturing program.
  • Manage the day-to-day facility requirements of the office building in Vancouver, BC.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a QA Supervisor or Manager.
  • Experience in internal auditing and inspection.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills within a team environment, take control of situations when appropriate to achieve results and take initiatives in representing issues and potential solutions to management.
  • Takes initiative at their level to make decisive decisions that align with the overall strategic mission of KD Americas.
  • Committed and reliable with steadfast integrity.
  • Uses strong judgement and reports when issues arise.
  • Seeks knowledge in their field and projects assigned.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; good written and verbal communication with both internal and external customers.
  • High level of customer service skills.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with other departments, product centers, regional offices, outside vendors, customers, and end users.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics ERP system is a plus.
  • ASQ accreditation is an asset.
  • Proven development and production of a QA program is a plus.
  • Strong background in the implementation and maintenance of quality management systems in accordance with ISO 2015 (or Canadian equivalent) is a plus.
