EK scientific echo sounder

The EK80 scientific echo sounder family provides high‐quality target strength, target position, and volume backscatter strength measurements over a large dynamic range for a wide range of frequencies. 

The EK80 Family comprises transceivers, transducers, EK80 software, and EK Mission Planner, for all types of marine explorations using echo sounders.

EK80 Software

At the heart of the EK family is the EK80 software which controls and record data from the echo sounders and ADCPs. Data can be visualized in real-time, but it is also possible to replay the recorded data later. Data recorded with the autonomous instruments can also be replayed in the EK80 software.

Transceivers and Transducers

Every transceiver can be connected to a wide selection of transducers. The transducers can be divided into two main categories: surface use and depth rated.

Autonomous Systems

WBAT and WBT Mini are autonomous transceivers, meaning they can operate and record data independent of interaction from a user. Deployment is prepared in advance using the EK Mission Planner. After sending the mission plan to the transceiver, the instrument can collect data on its own for weeks, months or even years. After recovering the instrument, data can be replayed in the EK80 software and processed using Python, Matlab or third-party software.
