MGC R5

Gyro Compass and INS

The MGC R5 COMPASS system is IMO type approved as a gyro compass for navigation purposes for use together with a heading and bearing repeater. Very high reliability is achieved by using Ring Laser Gyros with no rotational or mechanical wear-out parts. This MGC R5 COMPASS product especially focuses on position drift.

Advanced Navigation Capabilities

The MGC R5 product is a fully inertial navigation system (INS). It can output heading, roll, pitch, heave, and position. Acceleration and velocity of linear motions, as well as angular rates, are output from the unit. The MGC R5 product outputs both processed and raw (gyro and accelerometer) sensor data. With integrated navigation algorithms that incorporate input from a GNSS receiver, the product delivers output of aided position and heading data.

Optimal Performance for Maritime Applications

Designed for high precision maritime applications such as offshore operations and seabed mapping, the MGC R5 excels in variable environments. It supports various modes, including Gyrocompass mode, which requires only the input of speed to deliver accurate heading, roll, pitch, and heave, and Integrated Navigation mode, which leverages additional inputs from a GNSS receiver for comprehensive navigation data.

Software defined switchover solution

The MGC gyro compass solution comprises two or three MGC COMPASS units with the JB7 junction box in an interconnected setup which delivers an unmatched redundant SoU system. The Switch-over-Unit functionality is implemented to increase the heading availability by adding redundancy. When two or more MGC units are set up with the Switch-over-Unit functionality, they are regarded as one gyro system.
