Johan Mattsson is currently principal engineer in Kongsberg Discovery. His main task is to develop electromagnetic sensor technology for various underwater applications using platforms like AUVs, ROVs etc. He has previously been working with design and development of a Towed Streamer electromagnetic solution for sub-bottom resistivity estimations and electromagnetic technology for various navy applications. Johan earned a PhD in engineering mechanics in 1996 from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. The primary work areas during the years have included electromagnetic sensor system design, signal processing and numerical modeling of marine electromagnetics, mechanics, and ocean acoustics.

Seamless processing of electromagnetic data in Blue Insight acquired with the Listen sensor system

⏰ 12:00-13:00

📌 South Gallery Room 13

We demonstrate how processing of electromagnetic data acquired with the sensor system Listen can be handled and visualized in the Blue Insight SW. The purpose is to show a seamless workflow from raw data to decision-ready information that is useful for customers. The standalone Listen data processing SW has been integrated into Blue Insight where input, output and visualization is user friendly handled.
Data from a pipeline inspection survey is processed and visualized. Electromagnetic data from contactless data from an AUV survey line along a pipeline is processed with respect to anode material consumption and pipeline defects.

The session will cover:

  • The principles behind electromagnetic CP inspection and how the Listen receiver system captures field signatures
  • How the method integrates with HUGIN AUV operations for high‑resolution data collection
  • Using Blue Insight (SCOPE) to visualize, interpret, and deliver actionable insights from recorded CP data
  • Real‑world examples demonstrating how contactless CP inspection enhances safety, reduces operational complexity, and improves repeatability compared to traditional survey methods

By the end of the workshop, attendees will understand the full workflow—from data acquisition to visualization—and how this innovative technique supports more efficient and reliable cathodic protection monitoring in offshore environments.
