POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Machinist is responsible for producing and repairing precision parts, tools, and fixtures, including small, fragile ceramic components and mid-sized metal parts—required for Manufacturing, Customer Service (Reverse Logistics), and R & D Departments. The role includes designing and building production test fixtures for multi-level transducer manufacturing and working closely with Engineering during the design phase to advise on manufacturability and machining approach.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Machine parts to specifications using tools such as manual and CNC lathes, and milling machines.
  • Follow Manufacturing, Engineering drawings and related part and product documentation.
  • Provide manufacturability input to Engineering during the design phase, advising on feasibility and recommended approach for new parts and fixtures.
  • Measure examines, and test completed units.
  • Perform specialized operations as they relate to composite ceramic element cutting.
  • Process encapsulated monolithic transducers.
  • Process multistage machining of multi beam arrays.
  • Design and build jigs, fixtures, and production test fixtures for multi-level transducer manufacturing and other work aids used in the fabrication, machining, and testing of parts or products.
  • Ensure that Machine Shop related materials management is performed in a cost effective, accurate and timely manner.
  • Program and set up CNC G-Code instructions for CNC lathes and mills (e.g. Fanuc, Haas, or similar controls), including offsets, tooling, and work-holding setup.
  • Create component models, toolpaths, and machining instructions using CAD/CAM software (MasterCam and SolidWorks).
  • Maintain Machine Shop equipment (Lathes, CNC Milling machines etc.), in good repair.
  • Participate in cross functional “learning & training” teams throughout manufacturing.
  • Follow Quality & HSE programs & initiatives through discussion and excellent working practices.
  • Create Change Orders and provide process, procedure, and product improvements.
  • Document Non-conformances in Visual Quality Management system.
  • Manufacture production tooling for Manufacturing, Customer Service (Reverse Logistics) and R & D Departments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Machinist Inter-Provincial TQ / Red Seal certification is preferred and reflects the level of precision and attention to detail this role requires but is not mandatory; equivalent demonstrated experience in a related field will be considered.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of MSDS / WHMIS principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Multi Material machining techniques; Ceramics, Metals, hard and soft plastics.
  • Knowledge of precision machining and handling techniques for small, fragile ceramic components alongside mid-sized metal parts within the same work scope.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of MasterCam and SolidWorks, and familiarity with common CNC controls (e.g Haas).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Soft Skills - Team think, adaptability, strong work ethic, attention to detail.
  • Hard Skills - Strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with complex machinery and machining processes, experience working with epoxies, urethanes and other encapsulants, experience working from assembly drawings, complex procedures, and other engineering/manufacturing documentation.
  • Innovative, creative, and systematic approach to problem solving (A3 8D Evidence based decision making combined with “out of the box” thinking).
  • Ability to balance and manage quickly changing, customer driven priorities.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office-based role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Work in warehouse, shipping and production areas when needed, ability to lift 30 pounds.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 CAD annually, DOE

Work Location: Office located in Port Coquitlam, BC.
