Director Business Development Germany

KONGSBERG is seeking an experienced and well-connected business development leader to strengthen our presence in Germany and support strategic growth across the Air/Space or Naval/Space domain. This is a key role for someone who understands the German defence landscape, can build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, and is motivated by creating long-term business opportunities in close collaboration with existing BD team, VP BD Germany and our divisions.


About the role
As Director Business Development Germany, you will represent KONGSBERG towards the German Federal Ministry of Defence, the Air Force or Navy, cyber command and other relevant defence stakeholders. You will act as an important link between customer organizations, procurement and planning environments, service branch commands, and KONGSBERG’s divisions. The role requires a combination of strategic insight, political awareness, customer understanding, and strong relationship-building skills.


Key responsibilities

  • Sustainable sales support across all divisions in line with the respective acquisition projects and concepts
  • Representation of KONGSBERG on site at the German Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg) and the Air Force / Navy
  • Serve as the liaison between BMVg departments (Policy, Budget/Controlling, Armed Forces Command, International Cooperation), the Planning Office, the service branch commands and offices (and successor organizations), and the corresponding KONGSBERG departments and business units
  • Support function for all KONGSBERG divisions in their interactions with the above-mentioned organizational elements, institutions, and related entities
  • Prevention of conflicts of interest between KONGSBERG business units
  • Ensure a coordinated presence within the BMVg and among the military customer organizations and service branches
  • Establish and maintain strong personal relationship networks
  • Provide proactive situational information and assessments regarding customers and their development trends, considering all procurement-related aspects of the Bundeswehr transformation
  • Identify and document business opportunities
  • Support project management in program execution and delivery
  • Represent KONGSBERG  in organizations, associations, and industry bodies
  • Support the coordination of KONGSBERG  association management activities and play a key role in event coordination
  • Support CRM management in the military sector

You have

  • Completed university degree; completed military service or former career/temporary service member (or participation in military reserve training); experience in technology, development, and sales within a defense technology company 
  • Customer knowledge: requirements authorities and procurement organizations, i.e. customer BMVg, executive agencies, organizational structures, processes, and responsibilities
  • Experience in PBN (Project-Based Procurement and In-Service Support) Strong communication, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Strong strategic and conceptual thinking abilities
  • Confident and professional customer engagement
  • Strong dialogue and information-processing capabilities
  • Independent and structured working style
  • Self-reliance in gathering and assessing information
  • Ability to provide neutral reporting while making recommendations
  • Outgoing personality with the motivation and enthusiasm to continuously improve and expand networks
  • Political awareness and sensitivity when dealing with major prime contractors in Germany
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong network within the defense technology community (e.g., FKH e.V., IDLw e.V., DWT e.V., etc.)
  • Established network within the Air Force and/or Navy, including contacts with key personnel such as Service Chiefs, Director of Planning, Armaments leadership, and other senior stakeholders
