Simulation and Autonomous Unmanned Systems

THEIA explores technologies for unmanned systems (UxV) through simulation, visualisation and integration with operational command-and-control systems. The project is relevant to both KONGSBERG's Naval Mine Counter Measure programme and the VANGUARD concept.

One part of the project focuses on generating high-resolution synthetic terrain models that provide the foundation for sensor simulations. These simulated environments are used to develop and test autonomy algorithms with realistic environmental data.

Another part of the project involves integrating simulated UxV platforms with operational command-and-control systems through the NATO STANAG 4817 interface. Students work with technologies such as PROTEUS Simulation Suite, the NJORD C2 system and Unreal Engine.

THEIA is particularly relevant for students interested in simulation, software development, autonomy and visualisation technologies.
