Satellites deliver persistent, accurate global visibility across vast ocean areas.

By combining space-based, subsea, and terrestrial sensor data with advanced analytics, maritime authorities gain a comprehensive and reliable understanding of activity at sea - strengthening their ability to detect threats, assess risk, and respond effectively to illegal or suspicious activity.

Maritime Security and Surveillance

Powered by space enabled intelligence

KONGSBERG delivers integrated and well-proven solutions for maritime security surveillance, maritime domain awareness, and C4ISR. Working closely with military customers and civil authorities, KONGSBERG supports the ability to gain, maintain, and exercise maritime control across complex and demanding operational environments.

Maritime domain awareness on one unified platform

KONGSBERG's maritime security solution is delivered through a single, unified platform designed for operational efficiency and accuracy.

Seamlessly combining historical data, real‑time feeds, and predictive analytics.

This gives operators clear and reliable decision support at every stage of an operation.

The platform is scalable and flexible, allowing it to be tailored to specific operational requirements while remaining fully interoperable with existing systems. Operators gain access to real-time, actionable information that supports immediate response as well as long-term planning. The system also supports investigative and forensic operations with the use of advanced analytics on historical data.  This unified approach enables coordinated operations across borders and sectors, supporting both national security objectives and civilian maritime governance.

KONGSBERG is uniquely positioned through an in-house product portfolio that includes advanced world-class sensors for the subsea domain, such as AUVs and ROVs, as well as space-based satellite systems. KONGSBERG is at the forefront of fusing data from our own native sensors and third-party systems across terrestrial, subsea, and space domains. This is a highly complex operation, giving authorities and users resilient and significantly enhanced maritime situational awareness.

KONGSBERG is uniquely positioned through a wide in-house product portfolio, here exemplified by Sounder USV (Uncrewed Surface Vessel).

Space- and satellite-enabled surveillance and intelligence

Space-based capabilities form a central part of the solution, and with end-to-end control of the satellite value chain, unmatched operational advantages include:

  • Persistent vessel tracking and dark ship detection through integrated terrestrial and satellite-based AIS (S-AIS), ensuring coverage in coastal and blue-water environments and enabling identification of vessels operating without or manipulating AIS, including shadow fleets.
  • High-resolution imagery intelligence using optical and synthetic apertur radar (SAR) provides reliable, all-weather insight for detailed geospatial analysis. This enables verification of static and mobile assets and supports assessment of naval activity and order of battle at home ports and other sensitive locations.
  • Support planning and targeting processes, with satellite-derived intelligence providing verified, time-relevant situational understanding during deliberate planning phases, including planning related to kinetic operations.
  • Advanced geospatial analytics, enabling route analysis and assessment of historical transit data to support in-depth investigations into maritime traffic patterns, logistics networks, and supply chains.
  • Automated identification support, using pre-processed imagery exploitation products, including IMEX of naval bases, to accelerate vessel identification and classification and reduce time from detection to assessment.

Satellite ownership and full value-chain capability

In addition to being a user of satellite data, KONGSBERG is a satellite owner and operator, with presence across the entire satellite value chain. This includes satellite production, launch services, satellite operations, data acquisition, processing, and operational exploitation.

This end-to-end control ensures reliable, secure, and shared data access for military and governmental users. By combining space-based intelligence with deep maritime expertise, KONGSBERG transforms complex data into practial operational insight. The system is well proven in operational use and has been developed in close cooperation with military customers.
