Thalassa
"Thalassa" is a French fishery research vessel. It is equipped with scientific echo sounders and sonars from Simrad.
"Thalassa" is owned and operated by the French marine research institute Ifremer. The fishery research vessel was built by the Manche Industrie Marine shipyards in Dieppe, and commissioned in 1996.
The primary missions for the "Thalassa" are:
- population ecology
- assessment of fished species
- study of resource distribution over time and space
- fishery and product processing techniques
"Thalassa" is however also equipped to perform other missions, such as physical oceanography and occasional deployment of the ROV Victor 6000.
Simrad systems on "Thalassa"
In order to carry out its missions, the "Thalassa" is equipped with the following Simrad equipment:
- Simrad ME70 scientific multibeam echo sounder
- Simrad EK60 scientific echo sounders with operational frequencies from 12 to 200 kHz (six systems)
- Simrad SR240 fish finding sonar (24 kHz)
