Leading VTS developer takes centre stage at VTS Symposium 2008

Kongsberg Norcontrol IT is presenting the latest developments in its cutting-edge C-Scope family of VTS solutions and its work with the MarNIS EU research project on the Kongsberg booth, at the 11th VTS Symposium in Bergen. Taking place 4-8 August, the VTS Symposium 2008 is a high profile event organised by IALA (International Association of Lighthouse Authorities) and the Norwegian Coastal Administration, which promises to be a landmark for new technology in VTS and e-navigation.

“A key theme of the VTS Symposium 2008 is the work towards a common standard for VTS, which is an issue we have been championing with our MarNIS work. We will be hosting daily demonstrations on our booth to provide delegates and visitors with an inisght into this work, which promises to have far reaching effects within the VTS and e-navigation communities,” comments Inge Flaten, President, Kongsberg Norcontrol IT.

Other themes include VTS from a global perspective, focusing on areas such as recent technological advancement, professional competencies, e-navigation, legal aspects, and VTS in the Arctic region.  Several Kongsberg Norcontrol IT presentations are included within the conference programme, covering new technology and the possibilities that VTS can enable further fossil fuel exploration in the arctic by minimising environmental impact of such activity.

In addition to being a major exhibitor, KONGSBERG is also a key sponosr of the VTS Symposium 2008. On 7th August, the company is hosting the technical visit to the Fedje VTS Centre near Bergen, which is based on Kongsberg Norocntrol IT VTS solutions and plays an important role in North Sea oil transportation operations. The boat cruise to Fedje is a spectacular sea journey and visitors will quickly appreciate the importance of protecting this unique coastline while optimising efficiency of maritime transportation.

A special edition of the Kongsberg Norcontrol IT newsletter will also be distributed from the Kongsberg booth at the exhibition.
