Heavy Lift Construction Vessel

Heavy Lift Construction Vessel with Pile Gripper System integrated to the Positioning System

A Heavy lift Construction Vessel is performing the initial construction work at a Wind Farm, mounting the monopiles to the bottom and secure the foundation. Utilising the advanced heave compensated pile gripper guidance system, the PGGS, KONGSBERG has developed a system that reduces operational time, reduces risk and increase the efficiency offshore by executing the complete operation in fully DP mode without anchoring.

The State of the Art Dynmic Postioning System and Motion Control System tailored for use under challenging conditions during installation of Windfarm foundations,  cooperates with the integrated propulsion system and secure a stable platform for the installation crew.  The Pile Gripper Guidance System (PGGS) manoeuvres the monopile and support the secure operation of heavy loads in big seas. This stystem replaces lengthy, temporary mooring processes with full DP manouevering, coordinates an innovative guidance system and a Hydraulic Frame mechanism.

Together with our Partner MacGregor, KONGSBERG has developed the system that will reduce installation time, secure operations and extend the weather window.

MacGregor will supply the gripping frame for the piles for the turbines. This frame is mounted on the deck of the installation vessel and can compensate for the movements from the Sea. The KONGSBERG PGGS system ensures the gripper will hit the monopile correctly. The system communicates with the other KONGSBERG systems onboard allowing the entire operation to be carried out while the ship is in DP mode and without need of mooring facilities.

Integration of our state of the art Propulsion units, Engines, Deck Machinery and Control and Safety Systems will reduce a number of cost elements for a Heavy Lift Construction Vessel:

  • Shipyard will save engineering hours, interface meetings, cabling and installation work, and over all reduce the risk in the project
  • Ship designers will be able to tailor their solutions for specific designs and customer requirements together with KONGSBERG. An integrated solution will free up space and reduce weight. This is valid for winches, electrical systems and control systems at bridge
  • Owner and operators will reduce OPEX regards to efficient operations. A proven life cycle management system for the delivered solution will in the long run save cost and increase visibility for the uptime of your asset.
  • Shipyard, designers, owners and operators will benefit from the unique knowledge and experience Kongsberg possess after more than 30 years within Offshore Operations, enabled by Kongsberg contribution throughout the entire process from concept to operation.
