Upgrading Statoil's Norne production ship

Kongsberg Maritime AS has been awarded a contract worth roughly MNOK 40 by Statoil. The contract covers the upgrading of the safety and automation system on Statoil's Norne production ship.

The unique aspect of the work being done on the Norne production ship, is that all the hardware upgrades are being made while the unit is in full production.

Part of long-term collaboration The Norne contract is part of KONGSBERG's long-term collaboration with Statoil, which also covers operations, maintenance and modifications on Statfjord A, B and C, Heidrun and Åsgard A and B.

"Owing to new development projects and modifications, the Norwegian oil and the gas market is an important target area for Kongsberg Maritime. The Norne contract is one of a large number of similar contracts we've completed on the other Statoil installations. Last summer, our framework contracts with Statoil for Maintenance & Operations were renewed for two more years. We also have a framework contract with the company for new projects", explains Marketing Director Tor Erik Sørensen of Kongsberg Maritime.

Equipped to meet future challenges Once its safety and automation systems (SAS) have been upgraded, the production ship will be well equipped to meet future challenges. In addition to the Norne vessel, in the Halten/Nordland area, Statoil has installations on Heidrun and Åsgard A and B, where Kongsberg Maritime AS has supplied complete safety and automation systems, as well as maritime systems for positioning and ballasting.

Kongsberg Maritime is also in the final phase of delivering the safety and automation systems for the Kristin platform, which is currently being assembled by Aker Stord.

Upgrading while in production "This contract with Statoil will bring the systems on Norne up to the same technological standard as those on Kristin. The unique aspect of the work being done on the Norne production ship, is that all the hardware upgrades are being made while the unit is in full production. The final upgrading of the control logic will take place during a planned production shutdown", reports Sørensen.
