EGNOS test bed
European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service - EGNOS
Europe's primary contribution to GNSS-1 (Global Navigation Satellite System) will involve signal relay transponders carried on geostationary satellites and a network of ground stations. Together, they will provide a regional augmentation service for GPS and GLONASS signals over Europe, the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, South America, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. This augmentation is called an "overlay" and the European programme is known as the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service, or EGNOS.
Global Navigation Satellite System
During 1999 initial tests have been carried out on the EGNOS Test Bed, and we were assigned the contract for delivery of the Reference Stations for this system. The EGNOS Test Bed is based on the SATREF system developed by Kongsberg Maritime for the Norwegian Network of GPS Reference Stations, and has enabled the EGNOS to get a "flying start" on the implementation of the Test Bed. This contract is one of several involvements for us in the GNSS development and is important for the continued development of advanced, satellite based navigation and positioning products and systems.
