C & C Technologies acquires third HUGIN AUV
C & C Technologies, Inc. of Lafayette, Louisiana, USA has contracted Kongsberg Maritime to supply a HUGIN 3000 Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), for delivery April 2005. This will be the third HUGIN in C&C’s AUV fleet. The order comes just 3 months after C&C Technologies, Inc. placed an order for a HUGIN 4500 (4500 meter depth rating), for delivery later this year.
The HUGIN 3000 AUV is rated to 3000-meters water depth, is slightly longer than it predecessors and is powered by the Kongsberg Maritime aluminium oxygen fuel cell battery, which provides a mission endurance of more than 50 hours before resurfacing. The vehicle will feature an enhanced survey sensor suite, basically consisting of:
- Multibeam echo sounder
- Side scan sonar
- Sub-bottom profiler
- Conductivity, temperature depth system
The HUGIN 3000 features an acoustic data link that allows sub-sampled sonar data to be viewed in real time. Underwater positioning will be performed using a Kongsberg Maritime HiPAP® SSBL (Super Short Base Line) system integrated with Doppler Velocity Log, an Inertial Navigation System, and a surface reference GPS. Acoustic links for control of the vehicle, reading of sensor data and emergency control are also part of the delivery.
"C & C Technologies, Inc is an experienced AUV survey operator and Kongsberg Maritime is once again proud to be chosen as its AUV supplier,” says Karstein Vestgard, VP AUV Department, Kongsberg Maritime. “We have worked closely with C & C to bring forward the survey capability of our AUVs. Today, C & C is by far the most experienced AUV offshore survey operator with a very impressive track record, accumulated over several years. Over the last four years, C & C has completed 71 AUV projects on 4 continents for 35 different clients. Their first HUGIN 3000 has surveyed more than 40,000 line-km, far enough to encircle the globe at the equator."
