What maritime opportunities are ahead of us and how will we achieve sustainable development of the sea? That was the theme of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association’s annual Global Outlook Conference 2018, which was held on April 12th in Oslo.

The conference gathered 400 participating CEOs, Politicians, Academics and NGO representatives.

An-Magritt Ryste from Kongsberg Maritime took part in a panel debate, discussing the Yara Birkeland project and the future of autonomous shipping.

Wilhelmsen, KONGSBERG and Yara debating autonomous shipping at Norwegian Shipowners’ Association’s annual Global Outlook Conference.

There was also a presentation from the team which won our student contest Yourextreme in 2017. The student presented solutions for cleaning the world oceans from plastic, mainly by preventing plastic floating down rivers from reaching the ocean.

“New opportunities in the sea represent new opportunities for the Norwegian maritime cluster. We are proud that the Norwegian maritime industry is offensive and forward-looking in finding good solutions to the world’s challenges. This despite the fact that large parts of the industry have had difficult demanding markets in recent years”, says Harald Solberg, Managing Director of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association.
