MNOK 100 contract with Raytheon

Kongsberg Satellite Services AS has been awarded a contract with Raytheon for operation of the NPOESS satellite program. The contract has a value of appr. MNOK 100, and the operations shall be carried out from October 2011 to September 2016. The contract confirms that Kongsberg Satellite Services is one of the world's leading companies for serving polar orbiting satellites. The long duration of the contract is important for the company's future development.

Through this contract, Kongsberg Satellite Services shall among other things offer services to the NASA NPP (NPOESS preparatory Program) satellite as well as the upcoming NPOESS satellites. NPOESS is the back-bone of the next generation US environmental and meteorological satellites.

Kongsberg Satellite Services is owned 50 percent by Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace and 50 percent by Norwegian Space Centre. The company has its main office in Tromsø and is operating satellite control and data reception facilities in Tromsø, Svalbard, Grimstad and in Antarctica. In addition to services related to satellite operation and control, Kongsberg Satellite Services provides services in the area of marine surveillance, especially oil spill and ship detection.
