This presentation describes how cooperation between end user and manufacturer improves overall functionality in a high end INS solution.
Through the last 25 years the KONGSBERG Seapath GNSS/INS product family have set a standard for position and attitude performance. Through the cooperation with a wide customer base, and their request for new and improved functionality, KONGSBERG have continued to develop the Seapath family. The data recorded from survey’s on multiple occasions clearly shows how the end user’s struggle with GNSS outage when passing under bridges. The cooperation between the end user and manufacturer in this case gives an overall performance gain for all river surveys needing accurate position and attitude data when passing under bridges. Further to this, the recent release of new INS sensors (MGC and miniMRU) gives new opportunities in combination and utilization of the sensors. In this presentation KONSBERG will look in to the challenges related to passages of bridges and how the performance can be improved.

The end user approach is that passing bridges should have minimal effect on the measurement accuracy in both vertical and horizontal position. By using RTK positioning system with down to 1 cm accuracy, loss of GNSS satellite signals or RTK correction signal significantly reduces position accuracy. The challenge is to reduce the degradation to a minimum by integrating the GNSS signal with INS. Another way to reduce the degradation is to post-process the data after the survey, but this is time consuming and something the surveys prefer to omit if possible. This presentation describes real-time performance without any post-processing.
