Vessel Insight Benchmark introduces a new data driven approach for gaining insight into historic vessel performance.
Fleet managers and maritime executives get access to key metrics for their vessels and can compare these against vessels in the same segment
Vessel Insight Benchmark provides insight into the vessel operating profile compared to vessels of similar size and type. The service is based on common definitions and high quality data that provides an instant historic perspective that helps to trigger discussions on improving vessel operations and support already ongoing initiatives.
The service uses data from MarineBenchmark’s maritime statistical platform. This platform combines terrestrial and satellite AIS data, the global ship register and vessel statistics to provide powerful insights.
Vessel Insight Benchmark is available to all customers using the Vessel Insight Service and is available on the Kognifai Maritime Marketplace
Energy Efficiency Benchmarking
The maritime industry is very competitive and is constantly looking at ways to enhance revenue and optimize cost levels. The ability to execute on combination of these factors determine success. Benchmarking is a proven approach using a set of metrics to get a comparative view across companies and highlight improvement areas.
Speed optimization has been an effective measure to improve vessel energy efficiency. While reducing speed, reduces energy consumption it also prolongs the voyage and lowers the combustion efficiency, resulting again in an increased consumption per unit distance.
In addition to speed and the variability of speed, fuel consumption is also affected by factors such as cargo and trim.
It is almost 11 years since the IMO introduced the Energy Efficiency Operational Index (EEOI). A voluntary indicator to assess the vessel transport efficiency in amount of CO2 emitted per unit of transport work. While EEOI is criticized as regulatory tool and is limited to the laden part of the voyage, it can be a useful metric for assessing vessel energy efficiency when combined with other metrics and Benchmarking oneself against the competition.
By tracking vessel EEOI, Speed Laden/Ballast, Transport Work and Fuel consumptionoperators get insight into the energy efficiency of a vessel in operation. The combination of metrics can help estimate the effect of changes in operation like improved voyage planning, hull cleaning and other technical measures.
By comparing vessel with vessels of similar size and type, using these metrics operators put their vessel in a global context and assess how other vessels are operated and can make better decisions on what measures to take to stay ahead of the competition.
