Lone Wolf is a multi-disciplinary project in Kongsberg Defence & Aerospece. The project designs and builds an autonomous ATV that can avoid obstacles.
The main goal of the project has changed from previous years. The focus previously was to design and build an autonomous remote weapon station (RWS). This year the project designs and builds an autonomous ATV that can avoid obstacles.
Some of the disciplines covered by the project are:
- Image processing
- Control software
- User interface
- Industrial design
- Project management
In the summer of 2019, the Lone Wolf team had a total of 10 Bachelor and Master degree students. The main goal for the summer project was to make an ATV drive autonomously and avoid obstacles. To achieve this, the team used GPS with RTK technology (Real-time kinematic) to obtain precision down to the centimeter.
Different sensors were used, including LIDAR and 4K cameras. The LIDAR allows us to measure the distance to a target by illuminating the target with pulsed laser light and measuring the reflected pulses with the sensor. In the beginning of august, the team will present their project for KOG management and fellow summer students.
