Kongsberg has been at the forefront of anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM) technology for many years. In the 1970s, the Penguin became the first ASCM developet in the Western World. It is now the world's leading anti-ship missile for deployment on naval helicopters.
In 1996, the Royal Norwegian Navy ordered the developement of a naval strike missile (NSM). This programme is on schedule and will be completed in 2005.
Key features:
- Both Penguin and NSM were developed to meet the complex operating environment encountered in the Norwegian fjords.
- Able to navigate precisely through archipelagic waters and terrain.
- Employ a highly discriminative passive target homing technique.
