Within the field of electrooptics for space applications, KONGSBERG has delivered flight hardware to two earth observation missions; the MIPAS- and the IASI instrument.

KDA has since 2000 been pursuing opto-pyro as an alternative for conventional pyrotechniques for space.

Fibre coupling has been studied in two ESA-projects; Advanced Fibre Coupling Technology and Fibre Optical Wavefront Filtering.

KONGSBERG was prime of the OSC project, which involved partners from several european countries. The project covered design, manufacturing and testing of a breadboard optical inter satellite communication link.
