Blue Force PROTECTOR
Fratricide and collateral damage have always been a serious and unfortunate factor in military operations.
The purpose of Blue Force PROTECTOR (BFP) is to give the armed forces:
- a safer system because of the reduced risk for fratricide
- a more effective system through an improved Situation Awareness for the operator from the network and inter-operability information
- a more combat efficient system through shared sensor data and target information with other weapon units.
BFP is a computer based tactical command and control information system to support battlefield management in manoeuvre operations at the battalion, company, platoon, and squad level. The main objective of BFP is to prevent Blue on Blue incidents and support commanders in near real-time battle management. The system provides functionality and information to the commanders in order for them to perform their tasks and to maintain situation awareness, monitor own status and thereby increasing the efficiency and speed of the command and control process as well as the combat capability and strength of existing forces. Maintaining situation awareness is achieved by providing a near real-time up to date situation picture utilizing blue force tracking capabilities and functionality to distribute enemy observation.
The operational environment of the system may differ from war operations to peace keeping operations. Consequently it is important that the system is configurable in order to best suit the different operational requirements and that important functionality are easily available.
