The King and the Queen of Norway visited Svalbard

King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, together with a large delegation headed by the Governor of Svalbard, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Education visited Kongsberg Satellite Services' Svalbard station (SvalSat) on April 27.
On a beautiful spring day the King and the Queen were introduced to satellite operation and control, remote sensing from satellites, oil-spill and ship detection based on data from polar orbiting satellites.
Kongsberg Satellite Services is a world-leading provider of services in these areas. The company's services are provides to international satellite owners and operators such as NASA, NOAA, ESA, Eumetsat, ISRO of India, JAXA of Japan to mention a few.
The Svalbard Station is the world largest ground station for reception of data from polar orbiting meteorological satellites. The oil spill and ship detection service is the only operational service of its kind and it based on data received from radar satellites.
